Whirling Dervishness

#31 (Last January Small Stone)

Just through the front door when a sudden phone call disrupts the anticipated slump at the end of a long day.

All is now frantic activity. Dog gets banished to the garden (he doesn’t mind as he feels safer out there compared to being in the midst of the whirlwind inside).

Daughter is dispatched to check her room and the dining area for debris from art coursework last night – obviously a study in confetti making and usage…

Quick! Check bathroom; clothes and towels grabbed from their starring role as bathmats now hastily flung into basket. Give the sink a wipe and the toilet some Harpic – better!

Mop kitchen floor while packing away the contents of the drainer. Start hoover, and do the bit that can be seen, while flicking with a duster. Two hands, call for two jobs at a time – gets it done faster.

Phew! Sit down calmly waiting for the bell.

My friend knows what I’m like but I apologise for the mess anyway…

A lighthearted look at life on any given day

Art is our home. This door is open, always, to all, and yet permits not the entry of draft or rain. The doused may find solace, and repose, in the warmth of this hearth. For the sparks of these words - the spectres conjured by its incandescence - are a family whose love is unconditional, and will ever blaze, kindling within us the faith to weather these tempests. The ashes may then be scattered upon the winds - to ignite the lost, and unify our souls as one, in unquenched illumination; to be the light which guides us home, through the darkest of eclipse.
