Brushing off the Cobwebs

The old neglected piano has sprung to life! My daughter has found some music on the internet and is teaching herself to play it…do I offer to help her – and risk her stubbornly closing the lid, or do I leave it up to her to work it all out (I’m sure she will eventually)? In the meantime I sit in the room next door and listen with maternal pride.

My Mum s doing the same thing – but learning with videos from the net. She does not like to read music or learn with a method. But she s having fun and it’s really wonderful to listen to her play.

I think that enjoyment is the most important thing. I am ashamed to say that I had lessons for 7 years and used to leave my practising to night before the lesson – luckily I was a good sightreader! I have a musical phase every now and then but most of the time it is a receptacle for post :/ good to think that my daughter is getting some enjoyment from it 🙂

Art is our home. This door is open, always, to all, and yet permits not the entry of draft or rain. The doused may find solace, and repose, in the warmth of this hearth. For the sparks of these words - the spectres conjured by its incandescence - are a family whose love is unconditional, and will ever blaze, kindling within us the faith to weather these tempests. The ashes may then be scattered upon the winds - to ignite the lost, and unify our souls as one, in unquenched illumination; to be the light which guides us home, through the darkest of eclipse.
