Signs of Winter

Veiny fingers of frost

Stretch across the rear windscreen.

A chill liquid blast soon

Sees them melt into icy

Rivulets – vanquishing

Winter’s tentative hold…

This time.

Showing us the Way

A thin beam from the torch
Barely illuminates
Our path as we try to
Follow the drive downwards.
Tarmac soon gives way to
Looser gravel; feet make
Stones skitter sideways – marking
Our passage while eyes glint
From the darkness. We turn
A corner and the steamy
Warmth of kitchen lights welcomes
Us up ahead. Dinner
With friends beckons. As we
Cross over into the
Light so does our feline

Hearing Voices

I listen to the voice reading my words and feel curiously rather pleased at the intonations, at the interpretation. It’s not easy reading someone else’s words when they are listening to you. Then again when she read them I wasn’t listening. Our new audio book is playing on my laptop. Thank you to Danielle Burgess and the RNIB and the lady who was briefly my voices… Well done to everyone concerned.

Blood sports

Trundling down the pier at ten miles an hour (you get clocked and booked if you go any faster) I have ample time to look left and right. The tide is at its lowest, exposing a feast for both the gulls and the fishermen preparing for this evening’s marathon.
When I was young and eager I would carry the bait bucket around Player’s beach – a caddy for a contest which swapped club for rod.
Time moves on, the tides are ever-shifting in this game of life that we play out on the sands of here and now.

Being Margaret

A lighthearted look at life on any given day

Art is our home. This door is open, always, to all, and yet permits not the entry of draft or rain. The doused may find solace, and repose, in the warmth of this hearth. For the sparks of these words - the spectres conjured by its incandescence - are a family whose love is unconditional, and will ever blaze, kindling within us the faith to weather these tempests. The ashes may then be scattered upon the winds - to ignite the lost, and unify our souls as one, in unquenched illumination; to be the light which guides us home, through the darkest of eclipse.
