Spirit

MWM
Bittersweet late Christmas present…
…………….
First day of the Spring term and a bag full of presents greets me on the table at the back of the class. I couldn’t come in on the day we broke up – these offerings have sat patiently, biding their time until today. When I get home I sit and unwrap them.
Chocolates by the ton and body cream, vouchers and candles, my lovely class, still the presents come…wine and a beautiful Guardian Angel to sit and watch over me. I leave one until last. The child is away, mourning the loss of her sister and we grieve for her grief. I open her gift, carefully wrapped and thoughtfully chosen. I am ‘someone special’, according to the pen, also enclosed is a plaque to celebrate Christmastime – tears sting the back of my eyes as I read; ”Believe in the spirit of Christmas”…

Musings of a Midnight Nature

Midnight Musings

25.12.13
My brother knows me too well – he knows that I’m often to be found typing away into the middle of the night. My creative drive seems to wake up at about ten pm and the other night I finally got to bed at four in the morning. Obviously, this only works when it is the weekend or the holidays and I don’t have to get up for work two hours later. It is the same with whatever I am creating. When I had my little salt dough craft business I would be baking at 3am quite regularly. Now writing has taken hold I frequently find myself lying in bed thinking about what I would like to write. Last night I got up twice to jot things down and, in typical disorganised fashion, I had to scrabble around to find something to make a note on. Well no longer! I have been given the perfect Christmas present….complete with a (ok rather backhanded) compliment. ‘Midnight Musings of a Sleepless Genius’ it says on the cover and it is filled with lots of inspirational quotes and blank spaces to fill in by torchlight, candle-light, gas-light…whatever.
He thinks I am a genius. Wow! Ah hold on… ‘sleepless genius’ that suggests sleepwalking, sleeptalking, sleepwriting, being in possession of involuntary genius genes is not really a compliment at all – unless by association he is claiming to be full of it himself…hmmm

Playlist

I’ve done the treadmill and the bike,

You could have joined me if you’d liked,

Added a jog into the walk,

Tried not to stop to have a talk.

Waved to some kids walking up the hill,

And the coachload of pensioners stopping still

Right outside the vast glass pane,

Hope they know “No pain no gain”

I’ve balanced across the giant ball,

I had to be careful – it’s easy to fall!

In fact I managed to stay atop –

Avoided the wobble as there’s a nasty drop.

But the main point of all this sweat

Is not to win a hasty bet,

I’d like to get thinner and burn some fat

And I would question anyone, “What’s wrong with that?”

Tomorrow I’ll ignore any kerfuffle,

‘cos I’m taking my new ipod shuffle!

The Old Man and the Sea

The old man and the sea.
Looking for coastal gifts –
stones to craft and share.
Amazing what treasures
this oft deserted shore
can yield to those who see.
As one we seek
and
find.

With Thanks

My beautiful new journal; a thoughtful token from a friend who doesn’t realise that the greatest part of her gift is that she has made me value the other journals that I have already filled, and made me determined to not let those words go to waste. Tonight I am honing them – adapting, refining and streamlining, making them into something of more worth.
“Keep on writing Helen.” she inscribes. So that is what I do.

Art is our home. This door is open, always, to all, and yet permits not the entry of draft or rain. The doused may find solace, and repose, in the warmth of this hearth. For the sparks of these words - the spectres conjured by its incandescence - are a family whose love is unconditional, and will ever blaze, kindling within us the faith to weather these tempests. The ashes may then be scattered upon the winds - to ignite the lost, and unify our souls as one, in unquenched illumination; to be the light which guides us home, through the darkest of eclipse.
