7 Word Sunday – Thief

Sand whipped,
Land ripped…
Watery Wind Thief

The excessive rain has washed away all the earth beneath the road.

The excessive rain has washed away all the earth beneath the road.

Sand washed away from beneath the jetty leaving it exposed to the power of the sea.

Sand washed away from beneath the jetty leaving it exposed to the power of the sea.

A ticket to Ryde

Sunlight dapples the shadows streaming through
The windows on this bone-shaking train –
People stare at one another, mutely stunned,
In the ancient underground carriage.
Wordlessly I too ponder how such
Rickety, cantankerous beasts managed
To hurtle around underneath our
Capital. This train seems to echo my
Thoughts as it lands at the next station with
A groan; disgorging the passengers with
A projectile spew onto the waiting platform.

Am I
the only one
who gets a little
apprehensive around
I feel anxious
for the person letting them off –
what if
they don’t light properly?
What if
they land on my head?
I even
worry at big organised events.

The Old Man and the Sea

The old man and the sea.
Looking for coastal gifts –
stones to craft and share.
Amazing what treasures
this oft deserted shore
can yield to those who see.
As one we seek

Tourists stroll along the esplanade in the balmy evening half-light while on the beach a lone fisherman casts his line into a sea that barely moves. The calm waves gently wash the stony shallows free of their seasonal debris and then ebb back to the mass of the ocean with hypnotic grace. Soon there is no sign of the sandy battlements so carefully created just a few hours before.
We have our share of visitors to this Island; some vow to return when they have finished their life’s work – some, like a fish, get caught by its lure never to leave these shores.

A lighthearted look at life on any given day

Art is our home. This door is open, always, to all, and yet permits not the entry of draft or rain. The doused may find solace, and repose, in the warmth of this hearth. For the sparks of these words - the spectres conjured by its incandescence - are a family whose love is unconditional, and will ever blaze, kindling within us the faith to weather these tempests. The ashes may then be scattered upon the winds - to ignite the lost, and unify our souls as one, in unquenched illumination; to be the light which guides us home, through the darkest of eclipse.
