A Hair’s Breadth

Mum makes me a cup of hot, sweet tea…it helps and I relive the experience.

At the traffic lights of a blind junction I hear the wail of emergency approaching, I wind my window down as I approach through green and see the blue flashes reflected in the stone of the bridge up ahead. The car is on us – I slow and wait to let the car come through. Impatiently from behind, a pick-up revs and pulls out skidding around the corner in its angry haste just as the police car arrives in my vision. Aware that they can’t possibly not collide as the van makes his fatal turn, my hands instinctively, go up to my face and I shut my eyes waiting for the bang. Somehow, by some will of divinity, it doesn’t happen. With a screech of tyres they both manage to keep on a different piece of tarmac. Three directions of stunned motorists are left in their wake.

Breathing problems

Tonight we practise our howling wolf (no moon in sight) and crow like a cockerel (the dawn is some way off) then, most rebellious of all, we practise our circular breathing by shooting our mouthfuls of water into the air in the grounds of a spiritual place. Meanwhile, the sirens keep wailing as cars exit from the police station next door. I was quite surprised that we didn’t get an ASBO or two!

ASBO = anti-social behaviour order

A lighthearted look at life on any given day

Art is our home. This door is open, always, to all, and yet permits not the entry of draft or rain. The doused may find solace, and repose, in the warmth of this hearth. For the sparks of these words - the spectres conjured by its incandescence - are a family whose love is unconditional, and will ever blaze, kindling within us the faith to weather these tempests. The ashes may then be scattered upon the winds - to ignite the lost, and unify our souls as one, in unquenched illumination; to be the light which guides us home, through the darkest of eclipse.
