Under a Thundercloud

Outside the thunder
growls ominously
while the rain
drums furiously
on the new
spring shoots.
Lightning not visible…
yet
I know that I was
in a bad mood when
she went out
but
I wish she’d ring…

Wet…apple 2

The torch beam

illuminates little

of the path

to the old garage.

I tentatively

make my way

through the sodden leaves

and up the

treacherous worn steps,

I watch for

signs of any slugs –

although they are not

my favourite creatures,

I don’t want

to make their lives more

miserable

on this joyless evening.

The garage is dark;

cobwebs trail

from my face and hand

as I open the door

and step into

the relative dry

of a dripping shelter.

I can feel

a hundred tiny

insect eyes

peering at me.

I quickly open

the chest freezer, grasp

the bread and leave them

to their feasting.

Foreshadowed

How quickly the beast

Slides over the land,

Obliterating

The sun-brightened hues –

Plunging all into a monotone dusk.

Lashing its tail, it drips malevolence

Then passes on to

the next victim…

Leaving our joy

Spluttering in a

Pool of colourless

Blood.

Mud-larks

Time has moved forward and the Island is host to rain lashed trees and an early darkness more akin to November than June…or could it simply be a mud-inducing pre-Isle of Wight Festival deluge? All those new wellies need something to wade through – it wouldn’t be such fun without it!

Art is our home. This door is open, always, to all, and yet permits not the entry of draft or rain. The doused may find solace, and repose, in the warmth of this hearth. For the sparks of these words - the spectres conjured by its incandescence - are a family whose love is unconditional, and will ever blaze, kindling within us the faith to weather these tempests. The ashes may then be scattered upon the winds - to ignite the lost, and unify our souls as one, in unquenched illumination; to be the light which guides us home, through the darkest of eclipse.
