Uncontained

I pounce upon the large rigid envelope left on the table, barely containing my excitement at the postmark. The contents do not disappoint. More pieces of the puzzle emerge from the dark confines of the package and I spend the rest of the evening in contemplation, research and planning. Even my drumming session is filled with my daydreams of successful unearthing. It doesn’t do much for my playing however…

The Search

He’s no longer here
in the present
just an echo
of the past –
left behind in
little clues
for me to find.
A name in a paper,
a face in a photo,
a name whispered
in sadness…
One by one
they reveal themselves
as I sift through
all the grit
to find the
nuggets of gold
below.

Building confidence, making notes, preparation continues.

Another piece of the puzzle

My eyes ache from squinting at the screen too long and my head has that disconnected feel that longs for sleep. Armed with little more than a name and a vague date, I search for another piece of the compelling puzzle begging to be solved. Then, at last, I spot her – a passenger on a ship 65 years before. Another fragment of history floats back to life.

Clarity

Art is our home. This door is open, always, to all, and yet permits not the entry of draft or rain. The doused may find solace, and repose, in the warmth of this hearth. For the sparks of these words - the spectres conjured by its incandescence - are a family whose love is unconditional, and will ever blaze, kindling within us the faith to weather these tempests. The ashes may then be scattered upon the winds - to ignite the lost, and unify our souls as one, in unquenched illumination; to be the light which guides us home, through the darkest of eclipse.
