Ten Most Tenacious Plants no. 10 Ivy

Upside Down
Like Rapunzel, Ivy’s tangled tresses
Cascade down the towering fencepost
Before weaving their tangled way along
The ground. They cling with desperate fingers
To the bare earth – once won not easily
relinquished!

Rambling

The small stones relinquish reluctantly the fruit of their depths.

The bag fills but I hesitate and look again at the nameless imposter newly removed from my front garden – such a will to survive the barren ground. I feel guilty for thwarting its humble aims and, for a moment, acknowledge its fragile strength.  Although the root is strong, it doesn’t extend far below the surface but barbed hairs stretch outwards for any advantage along the gangling lengths.

Crenelated leaves of green are edged with the deepest red while ruby buds shoot out spindly tongues; eventually to flower into five-petalled blushes.

Wild beauty your brief life has left its mark.weed 3

Clarity

Art is our home. This door is open, always, to all, and yet permits not the entry of draft or rain. The doused may find solace, and repose, in the warmth of this hearth. For the sparks of these words - the spectres conjured by its incandescence - are a family whose love is unconditional, and will ever blaze, kindling within us the faith to weather these tempests. The ashes may then be scattered upon the winds - to ignite the lost, and unify our souls as one, in unquenched illumination; to be the light which guides us home, through the darkest of eclipse.
